Our Founders

Ernie and Gail Mills

Since 1974, the Mills family has had one goal in mind: Mend shattered lives by restoring families and giving hope in Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill for the glory of God – and they’ve remained dedicated to this mission since.

What started with a small, two-story house in Durham, NC has now expanded to multiple shelters able to help hundreds at once.

Now, Ernie and Gail have stepped back from the daily operations of their mission to instead focus on growing the Rescue Legacy Fund so they may continue to help the people of North Carolina.

Success Stories

“In October 2002, I got saved for real. God mended my shattered life, and I am happy to share with you that my family has been restored.”

Walter Cole

“I was injured and homeless. One of the doctors knew about my situation and recommended the Durham Rescue Mission. With no place to turn, I came to the mission. Here I found people who really cared for me.”

Billy Bullock

“I went through the Victory Program, and that was truly a blessing. I have given my heart to God, and he has blessed me enough for the rest of my life.”
